Description

Buhe is a cherished spiritual and cultural holiday marking the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ on Mount Tabor. Children celebrate the feast by roaming through neighborhoods, singing the traditional "Hoya Hoye" songs in praise of elders, and cracking braided whips, for which they receive bread or money as blessings. As bonfires light up the evening, people come together in jubilant celebrations filled with food, drinks, songs, and dance. While the holiday is celebrated throughout the country, its most vibrant celebrations take place in rural areas.
